    #26. Respect in a Relationship

    This Conversation Will Help You…

    1. Say why respect is important in a relationship

    2. Know that needs & values might be different in a relationship

    3. Say ways that they can show respect for their partner

    Think About This First

    •  This conversation adds on to previous conversations about values and wants in relationships, and allows the opportunity to think about those values in relation to respect.

    Having the Conversation

    Start here:

How important is respect to you in a relationship?

Can you have a good relationship without respect?

Do both people need to respect each other equally in a relationship for it to work?

What kinds of respect are mandatory for a relationship, in your opinion?

Is it important for your partner to agree about this?

    Continue:

What do you think the odds are that your needs and your partners’ needs would be different?

How much difference in values is okay in a relationship?

What values are important to share, and which ones can be different?

    Keep Talking:

How can you let your partner know that you respect their values?

What are ways you can show your partner that you respect their boundaries?

What are ways you can talk respectfully with your partner about differing needs?
